Hurricane Response - Asset Management Practices and Authorities
- GSA provides guidance on appropriate asset (aircraft, motor vehicles, and personal property) management in response to hurricane support efforts.
- Businesses holding GSA Schedules may be tasked for support of government relief efforts. Vendors not on schedule may request to be considered as sources for emergency procurements.

Damaged Government Vehicle
Any GSA Fleet vehicles damaged by a hurricane should be reported to Penny Hargett at GSA's Accident Management Center by calling 800-325-2958 Ext. 54008 or email penny.hargett@gsa.gov. Emergency Authority for Government Charge Card Use
Purchasing goods and services during emergencies with government charge cards is allowed.
Emergency News for Government Travelers
Advice for temporary duty and relocation of government employees in affected areas is in GSA Bulletin FTR 05-06 [DOC - 58 KB]. GSA announces increased privately owned vehicle reimbursement rates. A contract for emergency lodging services is available to government travelers.
Hurricane Response: Teleworking Encouraged
President Bush is calling for energy conservation and federal agencies are on notice to increase the use of telecommuting, carpooling and public transportation. In response, the GSA-sponsored Washington Metropolitan Telework Centers are available at no charge to agencies through December 31, 2005, to increase federal telework usage. Employees, managers, supervisors and telework coordinators can visit the joint GSA and OPM website on telework for more information.

Additionally, the Department of Commerce has established the Hurricane Contracting Information Center to provide a central point of reference for businesses, especially Minority-owned businesses and small- and medium-sized enterprises, to register for and become aware of federal contracting opportunities in the Gulf Coast area. DOC has also established a HCIC assistance hotline, 888-4USADOC.
