GSA awards Construction Manager/Commissioning Agent contract for the Federal Courthouse in Butte, MT
Funded by the Inflation Reduction Act as part of President Biden’s Investing in America Agenda
BUTTE, Mont. – The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has awarded a $2 million contract for construction management and commissioning services to support the Mike Mansfield Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse seismic retrofit and limited modernization project.
GSA awarded the contract to Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, Inc. to provide services including construction project management, construction inspection, project scheduling, cost estimating, acquisition support, and commissioning and partnering for the upcoming design-build construction project funded through the Inflation Reduction Act [PDF].
The proposed project will include addressing seismic and structural deficiencies, including roof replacement, building system upgrades, and correcting accessibility, circulation and code deficiencies at the historic Mike Mansfield Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse located in Butte, Montana.
GSA’s goals for the Mansfield project include providing a long-lasting and durable facility that meets sustainability and climate-resiliency goals, including reducing energy use by approximately 40%. The project’s restoration of a historic asset and use of low-embodied carbon materials for the seismic retrofit and limited-scope modernization is estimated to reduce the amount of carbon emitted by 99.6% over the next 30 years.
This project is part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda in growing the American economy from the bottom up and middle-out – from rebuilding our Nation’s infrastructure, to creating a manufacturing and innovation boom powered by good-paying jobs, to building a clean-energy economy that will combat climate change and make our communities more resilient.
The Inflation Reduction Act includes $3.4 billion for GSA to build, modernize, and maintain more sustainable and cost-efficient high-performance facilities across America. GSA’s Inflation Reduction Act projects will implement new technologies and accelerate the administration’s efforts in achieving a net-zero emissions federal building portfolio by 2045. Through these investments, GSA estimates it could reduce carbon emissions by 2.3 million metric tons in greenhouse gas emissions. The same amount that 500,000 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles produce each year.
Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2025, with substantial completion by the summer of 2027.
