It’s Electric! Celebrating National Drive Electric Week
Post filed in: Fleet
Happy National Drive Electric Week! For us in GSA’s Office of Fleet Management, it’s one of our most important times of the year. We support partner agencies as they explore, deploy, and acquire electric vehicles and the charging infrastructure to power them.
As you’ve probably read, President Biden recently signed an Executive Order calling for 50% of all new cars manufactured in the U.S. to be electric by 2030. That means the electric vehicles in your driveway - and the ones in the Federal Fleet - are efficient, modern, and safe drives as well as one of the keys to helping tackle the climate crisis.
The Role of Electric Vehicles in the Federal Fleet
GSA Fleet is committed to giving our customers access to electric vehicles. In fact, during Fiscal Year 2021 (FY21), GSA Fleet bought more than twice the number of EVs than in FY20 and can now offer our federal partners sedans, vans, SUVs, buses, and medium and heavy trucks. Today’s electric vehicles are ready to work, going much farther on a single charge than earlier models. A few even drive up to 300 miles or more on a single charge. That kind of range means we can support more federal missions while working to keep our climate impact in mind.
Did you know?
- EVs are more efficient at converting energy than internal combustion vehicles. EVs convert over 77% of their electrical energy into power compared to only 12%-30% for internal combustion.
- The federal government expanded the number of electric vehicle offerings in 2021 by almost 150% - we now have more EV options than ever before.
- Where to charge? The Department of Energy Alternative Fueling Station Locator lists 49,963 stations & over 120,000 charging ports in the U.S.
All of us here at GSA are committed to supporting federal fleet electrification. We offer both purchasing and leasing options, and GSA Fleet leasing is an end-to-end leasing program. Using GSA Fleet will simplify and accelerate EV conversion, and also give you access to our cost-saving vehicle and infrastructure contracts.
The start of a new fiscal year means planning for the future — and there’s no better time to learn more and make the jump to EVs! Federal drivers are realizing the benefits EVs have to offer and we look forward to continuing this momentum into the next Fiscal Year and beyond!
