GSA awards $4,463,408 Wetland Mitigation Project for the Rouses Point (NY) Land Port of Entry
Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, this announcement is part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Invest in America Agenda.
New York - The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) awarded a wetland mitigation contract in support of the Rouses Point Land Port of Entry in New York. Funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, GSA awarded $4,634,408 to HGS, LLC to provide design and construction services for six (6) acres of wetland mitigation in the Richelieu Watershed. Design of the new Land Port of Entry began in June 2022. Wetland mitigation and construction of the new land port are both scheduled to begin in May 2024. GSA’s goal for the mitigation project is to replace or restore wetlands disturbed during the construction of the new port, and fully replace the functions and public benefits of the disturbed wetlands. “GSA is focused on reducing our environmental impact across the federal government,” said Francis Thomas, Regional Administrator for the New England, Northeast and Caribbean Regions. “Protecting the Richelieu Wetlands will have a lasting positive environmental impact for the surrounding communities and will demonstrate the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to environmental justice.” The new Land Port of Entry will be constructed at the United States/Canada border along New York State Route 11 in Rouses Point, New York. The new facility will replace the existing land port constructed in 1932, and will increase operational efficiency, enhance the traveling public’s crossing experience and improve federal inspection officer safety. This announcement is part of President Biden’s Invest in America agenda in growing the American economy from the bottom up and middle-out – from rebuilding our Nation’s infrastructure, to creating a manufacturing and innovation boom powered by good-paying jobs, to building a clean-energy economy that will combat climate change and make our communities more resilient.
