U.S. General Services Administration Awards Contract to Woman-Owned Small Business for Rouses Point Land Port of Entry

NEW YORK CITY — On June 2, 2022, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced the contract award for Architect Engineering services in the amount of $1,976,881 to Smith-Miller + Hawkinson Architects LLP. The award is for the design of the new federally-owned Land Port of Entry, (LPOE) at Rouses Point, New York. Smith-Miller + Hawkinson Architects LLP is a Woman-owned small business located in New York City, New York. This project is being funded under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The law provides $3.418 billion for GSA to modernize and construct LPOEs and related infrastructure. In New York state, the law will invest nearly $60 million in land port of entry projects.

The design of the new facility at Rouses Point will address deferred maintenance and improve operations at the port, expand throughput for the traveling public, facilitate economic development including the creation of good paying construction jobs, and benefit the American economy on the border and beyond.

The start date for the new design was June 2, 2022, with construction scheduled to begin in December 2023. The new facility is planned to be operational in 2026. The existing port will remain open and operating throughout the project.

GSA is responsible for constructing and maintaining LPOEs along the Nation’s borders in partnership with and support of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security - Customs and Border Protection and other Federal inspection agencies. Through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, GSA is modernizing LPOEs along the Canadian and Mexican borders. These upgrades will strengthen supply chains, create good-paying jobs, enhance safety and security, and provide other sustainable solutions to keep these ports operating efficiently and effectively for years to come.
