Biden-Harris Administration Announces $4.6 million Contract Award for Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Project at Brownsville/Gateway Land Port of Entry

BROWNSVILLE, Texas ㅡ The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) awarded a $4.6 million Bipartisan Infrastructure Law contract to Jacobs Technology, Inc. to conduct a Program Development Study for the Brownsville-Gateway Land Port of Entry (LPOE). The study will provide a technical analysis of the proposed modernization and expansion project to define existing conditions, identify program requirements, and implement a plan and schedule to meet project goals and objectives. The study will also provide insight into how the project will increase port security and improve the efficiency of travel and trade along the southern border.
“Investing in our land port of entry helps GSA support the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration,” said Acting Regional Administrator Giancarlo Brizzi. “By modernizing and expanding the land port of entry, we will be able to better support their mission to secure our borders while also strengthening the U.S. economy.”
The Brownsville-Gateway LPOE is one of 26 major construction and modernization projects at LPOEs funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provides funds to modernize and improve LPOEs at the northern and southern borders. The upgrades to these facilities will provide considerable capacity improvement for pedestrians and cross border travelers, while supporting the ability of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to ensure a safe and secure border. The BIL projects will also enhance safety and security, strengthen our supply chains, and lower costs for American families.
The Brownsville-Gateway LPOE is directly adjacent to downtown Brownsville, Texas, bordering the City of Matamoros in the State of Tamaulipas, Mexico, and is one of the busiest pedestrian LPOEs in the region.
