GSA’s 10x Selects 22 Innovative Ideas to Improve How the Government Uses Technology to Serve the Public Better

WASHINGTON — Today, the U.S. General Services Administration announced 10x’s selection of 22 innovative ideas that will have the potential to improve how the government uses technology to serve the public. These ideas will receive phased funding to build technology for the public good and align with government-wide priorities of rebuilding public trust with the government, protecting the environment, and promoting equitable public service.

Housed within the Technology Transformation Services (TTS), 10x accepts ideas on a rolling basis from civil servants and typically evaluates them twice a year, funding only the most promising ideas. This year, 22 ideas were selected out of 250 submissions. These ideas will turn good-for-government ideas into good-for-people solutions as they include topics ranging from climate and environmental justice to growing minority-owned businesses in the federal marketplace. Here are a few impactful topics the new 10x projects will be exploring:

  • How can the government best support individuals reentering society from incarceration?
  • How can the government best communicate civil rights to the public, all in one place?
  • How might agencies track their environmental footprint to mitigate their effect on climate change?
  • How can the government best involve the public in the early stages of policymaking?

“10x practices a unique approach for investing in government technology through a phased approach with iterative funding. Using this simple method, government-wide platforms with millions of users have been developed and launched successfully,” said FAS Deputy Commissioner and TTS Director, Dave Zvenyach. “With technology at the forefront of today’s priorities, these ideas provide an incredible opportunity to drive innovation forward.”

Long supported by the Federal Citizen Services Fund (FCSF), 10x has been the idea incubator behind government-wide solutions, such as and the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS). Founded in 2015, 10x has been inviting federal employees across agencies to submit ideas through its investment fund to make an impact on government services that ultimately deliver technology for public good.
