President Biden Signs the American Rescue Plan, Boosts Funds to Secure and Modernize Technology

WASHINGTON — Today, President Biden signed a $1.9 trillion rescue package that will deliver immediate relief to American families. The bill also provides critical resources to modernize technology and improve cybersecurity across the federal government, a need that has been further underscored by the pandemic. The $1 billion for the Technology Modernization Fund, which is managed by GSA, will give agencies a unique opportunity to make strategic investments to strengthen the federal government’s cybersecurity posture and help agencies develop state-of-the-art tools and infrastructure for a changing world.

In addition, GSA will use the $150 million provided to the Federal Citizen Services Fund to enhance the government’s ability to operate digitally. Near-term efforts will secure our systems while longer-term initiatives will enable mission delivery, transform the federal technology workforce, improve the citizen experience, and bring small business innovation into government.

"The American Rescue Plan delivers essential relief to families and communities hit hardest by the pandemic, and puts us on the path to vaccinate every American. It also includes critical resources to strengthen the technology infrastructure that federal agencies use and that the American people rely on,” said GSA Acting Administrator Katy Kale. “GSA is committed to working with partner agencies to maximize the impact of this important investment in our nation’s technology infrastructure."
