The U.S. General Services Administration, established by President Harry S. Truman in 1949, has been delivering the best value in real estate, acquisition and technology services, to the federal government and American people for more than 67 years. Our core mission is to help federal agencies buy smarter, reduce their real estate footprint, provide efficient, cost saving technology and create a better, faster federal government.
GSA’s Public Buildings Service acts as the federal government’s real estate arm and owns or leases office space in 9,600 buildings nationwide. In addition to office space, GSA owns the nation’s Land Ports of Entry’s, courthouses, laboratories, post offices, and data processing centers. These buildings serve a vital function for government and the American people. The agency is also responsible for promoting effective use of land assets, as well as disposal of federal property that is underutilized. Since 1987, GSA has saved taxpayer dollars by conveying over $3 billion worth of property across the nation. Of this, about one third has been conveyed to state or local governments and nonprofit organizations.
The Federal Acquisition Service, the only civilian federal agency whose mission is acquisition, helps federal agencies buy smarter. FAS procures a wide variety of goods and services on behalf of the federal government, leveraging its collective buying power to save money and increase efficiencies. They manage the $33 billion Multiple Award Schedules (MAS) program, partnering with more than 19,000 commercial suppliers to provide agencies with what they need to meet their missions. FAS is a champion of the governmentwide category management initiative, a new paradigm to help agencies become more informed buyers. The supporting platform, the Acquisition Gateway, is already 10,000 members strong and growing.
The Technology Transformation Service builds, provides, and shares technology applications, platforms, processes, personnel, and software solutions to federal agencies. Americans increasingly interact with vital services online and TTS is dedicated to helping agencies deliver modern digital products and services that are easy to use, efficient, effective and secure. By giving government the tools to more effectively serve the American people, TTS is increasing collaboration with industry, promoting citizen engagement, and saving taxpayer dollars.
As we move forward, GSA will continue its good work for the American people, providing cost savings, efficiency, and value, in real estate, acquisitions, and technology.
