U.S. Open Government initiative

Open government, a cornerstone of democracy, is critical for ensuring public servants remain accountable to taxpayers. Open government also enhances visibility of and access to information, which helps prevent corruption and waste and promotes fiscal responsibility and operational efficiency. Empowering informed citizens to actively engage with their government ensures it remains a government of, by, and for the people.

The U.S. Open Government Secretariat was established by GSA to advance the principles of transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement. It empowers the public to share ideas and expertise, informs government policies, and promotes collaboration across all levels of government.
