GSA's Calais Ferry Point Land Port Project Advances: Environmental Review Complete, Construction to Begin in 2026
BOSTON —Today, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced that a major milestone has been reached for the Calais Ferry Point, Maine Land Port of Entry (LPOE) expansion and modernization project. With the release of the Final Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI), this critical project milestone clears the way for construction to begin in 2026. This project aligns to President Trump’s priority of enhancing border security.
Calais Ferry Point is the busiest non-commercial port in Maine. The project will increase the inspection and operational capabilities, as well as modernize the LPOE with U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s updated program of requirements and security measures.
“The Calais Ferry Point LPOE is more than just a secure gateway to our country,” said Public Buildings Service Regional Commissioner Glenn C. Rotondo. “It is intrinsic to the security of our northern border and the entire New England region. We are excited for the opportunity to begin the process to improve this facility, and the economic prospects this project will bring to the region.”
GSA has considered public feedback received during the Draft EA public comment period from May 22 to June 23, 2025. As described in the FONSI, GSA selected the Proposed Action Alternative 1 in the Final EA as the alternative for implementation because it best meets the purpose of, and need for, the project without causing significant impacts on the resources analyzed in the Final EA.
The Final EA and FONSI can be accessed from GSA’s project website under the ‘Environmental Review’ section at: www.gsa.gov/calaisferrypoint.
