GSA Closes on Auction of Former U.S. Coast Guard Housing in North Kingstown, Rhode Island
BOSTON – The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), on behalf of the U.S. Coast Guard, closed on the real estate auction of a former housing site in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. The property has been conveyed to the successful bidder for a sale price of $2,430,003.
The property, located in the Signal Rock Acres Neighborhood of North Kingstown, consisted of eleven (11) single-family houses on one 2.3+ acre lot. Each has:
- three bedrooms
- one bathroom
- kitchen
- living area
- a one-car garage.
Proceeds from the sale will be returned to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The town of North Kingstown is in Washington County on Narragansett Bay and is about twenty miles south of Providence, Rhode Island. It is also considered a commuter town to Boston, Massachusetts, with access to the MBTA Commuter Rail, Wickford Junction line, which goes to Boston’s South Station.
“As the agency responsible for promoting effective use of federal real property assets, GSA frequently disposes of real property that is no longer mission-critical to the government,” Glenn Rotondo, Acting Regional Administrator for GSA’s New England Region, said. “I am pleased that our team has once again seamlessly delivered on its promise to reduce the government footprint with this sale.”
The transaction was handled by GSA’s New England Region Real Property Utilization and Disposal Division. The division provides realty services to federal agencies throughout the region, as well as in New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
With thousands of properties in the federal portfolio, disposing of underused federal property is a considerable task.
