GSA Announces Final Environmental Assessment for New USCH, Chattanooga, TN
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announces the availability of the final Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the acquisition of a site and construction of a new federal courthouse in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The proposed new courthouse would encompass approximately 190,478 square feet; include 7 courtrooms, 9 chambers, and 40 secured parking spaces; and be located within the city limits of Chattanooga. The final EA evaluated a range of alternatives for this courthouse including:
- Construction of the courthouse at the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Site – a portion of (specific size and location to be determined) the property bounded by W. 11th St. on the north, Market St. on the east, W. 12th St. on the south, and Chestnut St. on the west;
- Construction of the courthouse at the Stadium Site – a portion of (specific size and location to be determined) 201, 203, 205, and 301 Power Alley;
- Construction of the courthouse at the 8th Street Site – the property bounded by Lindsay St. on the west, E. 8th St. on the north, Houston St. on the east, and extending south to (and including) 814 Lindsay St; and
- Taking no action.
GSA has determined that construction of the proposed new courthouse would not result in a significant adverse impact to the human or natural environment. The final EA and FONSI are available online through GSA’s project website: https://www.gsa.gov/chattanoogacourthouse.
Two locations, the TVA site and the Stadium site, remain under consideration for the new federal courthouse. GSA anticipates a final site selection by fall 2024.
