GSA Awards Contract for Savannah U.S. Courthouse Annex
ATLANTA, GA — U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) awarded a design-build contract for the Savannah U.S. Courthouse Annex (Savannah Annex) to Hoar Construction LLC, Birmingham, Alabama.
Located in Savannah’s National Historic District, the Savannah Annex will complement the architecture of the surrounding facilities. In keeping with the historic district standards, the 46,000 square foot building will not exceed three stories. The Annex will be constructed on the current site of the Juliette Low A & B buildings.
“As a vital piece of a larger comprehensive strategy, the Savannah Annex will allow the judiciary to meet its current and long-term needs for security, accessibility and operational efficiency in Savannah, Georgia,” said GSA’s Southeast Regional Commissioner for the Public Buildings Service, Mike Goodwin. “Further, by maximizing operational efficiencies through the building’s design, we are able to meet the government’s needs while saving valuable tax dollars.”
Construction is slated to begin during the spring of 2018 and conclude fall 2020. The facility will house a new bankruptcy courtroom and related chambers as well as a new office for U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services. The $32 million budget authorized by Congress in fiscal year 2016 includes the cost of design, construction and related expenses.
The U.S. District Court, U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Attorneys’ trial prep and the grand jury will remain in the neighboring Tomochichi FB-CT. The Tomochichi FB-CT will undergo a renovation through a separate modernization project. Award for the Tomochichi FB-CT project is planned for spring 2018.
