GSA Region 4 Welcomes New Public Buildings Service Regional Commissioner
ATLANTA—The U.S. General Services Administration recently appointed Kevin Kerns as regional commissioner for the Public Buildings Service in the agency’s Southeast Sunbelt Region.
As regional commissioner, Kerns oversees the management of nearly 1,500 federally owned buildings and leased facilities, covering more than 44 million square feet across eight southeastern states. He leads a team of more than 500 planning, design and construction experts, contracting and disposal professionals, leasing specialists and property managers dedicated to meeting the workspace needs of federal employees in the eight-state region.
“Outside of Washington, D.C., the Southeast is home to the largest portfolio of federally owned and leased property, and it’s a massive undertaking to make sure federal employees have the safe and secure workspace needed to serve the American people,” said Kerns. “I’m truly humbled to have the opportunity to work with the dedicated professionals who manage this immense task each and every day.”
A graduate of both UCLA and the University of Colorado, Kerns began his 42-year career in public service as an armor officer in the U.S. Army. Following his retirement from active duty, he went on to hold several positions within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Most recently, he served as the deputy associate director of the Management Directorate for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, where he led efforts to improve quality, timeliness and innovation of the agency’s management support functions.
“With his tremendous wealth of management and financial knowledge, we’re thrilled to have Kevin join our team in Atlanta,” said GSA Regional Administrator Brian Stern. “We will be looking to his leadership as we strive to explore new, more cost-effective ways to provide and improve workspace for federal employees in our region.”
