A U.S. Army veteran and GSA employee was the perfect point person to manage GSA’s regional projects to lease and build-out space for community-based outpatient clinics where military veterans get health care.

GSA Lease Acquisition Officer Traun Roberts served four years in the U.S. Army, including a total of 15 months in Iraq with the 504th Infantry and 16th Infantry Regiments.

The Veterans Health Administration used GSA to lease space and manage the build-out of CBOCs in Dubuque and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Roberts said being a veteran played a significant role in his understanding and appreciation of both projects.

For me, they invoked a fidelity to my fellow veterans and those who currently serve to meet a crucial need to improve access and quality of health care,” Roberts said.

Roberts’ work on these projects has laid the groundwork for future success, because these projects were part of a larger GSA pilot program to help the VHA deliver CBOCs across the country.

The biggest accomplishment was the level of cooperation and commitment from all stakeholders,” Roberts said. “I worked with an adept team of impassioned professionals.”
