Region 6 hosts matchmaking event for women-owned small businesses

A matchmaking event exclusively for woman-owned small businesses in the construction industry took place virtually March 23. The conference featured women business owners presenting their capabilities, experience and specialties to local prime contractors.

“Last year the Region 6 PBS office awarded more than $45 million to small businesses, with over $13 million of that going to women-owned small businesses”, said PBS Regional Commissioner Kevin Rothmier. “We would like to grow that number in the future.”

Associate Administrator for the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization Exodie Roe welcomed participants, saying this event means a lot to him because the women in his family are entrepreneurs and have created meaningful and important businesses that are valuable to the community.

“GSA has consistently met our women-owned small business goal (5%) for the last 15 years, and it is vitally important we continue to grow women-owned businesses in the construction industry”, he said.

Participating woman-owned small businesses included:

Prime contractors Tarlton Corporation, JE Dunn and J-DOS Internationalé Inc. (a woman-owned small business) asked questions of the small business owners and discussed upcoming partnership opportunities.

GSA Region 6 Small Business Technical Advisor Bill Strobel hosted the event along with support from Region 9 Small Business Specialist Lori Falkenstrom. Representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Missouri Procurement Technical Assistance Centers provided advice for working on federal contracts, and contracting officers from PBS’s Design and Construction and Acquisition Management Divisions also participated. A total of 40 people attended.
