GSA Announces Reopening of Front Street to Vehicle Traffic

SAN DIEGO — The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announces the reopening of all vehicle lanes on Front Street between Broadway and West F Street at the Edward J. Schwartz Federal Office Building (FOB) in San Diego on Monday, June 28, 2021 at 6 a.m.

These vehicle lanes were closed in January 2020 as GSA began its 21-month construction project to structurally enhance the underpass. This construction project increases safety for building occupants, vehicles and pedestrians, and includes more efficient lighting throughout the tunnel. The building’s existing framing at the Front Street underpass has been reinforced with new steel beams, column support structures and precast concrete paneling.

What: Reopening of all vehicle lanes on Front Street
Where: Front Street between Broadway and F Street at the Schwartz FOB
When: Monday, June 28, 2021 at 6 a.m.

Pedestrian barriers, which closed underpass sidewalks on Front Street between E and F Streets in January 2020, will remain in place until Fall 2021, as construction to install new walkways continues. Pedestrians walking near the construction site are advised to plan ahead and adhere to posted detour signage.
