GSA to Open Four Additional Southbound I-5 Lanes at the San Ysidro Port of Entry

Alternating, Temporary Overnight Closures on I-5S, I-805S Planned June 10 - 14

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. –

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) is pleased to announce the opening of the last four additional lanes on the newly constructed southbound Interstate 5 (I-5S) on June 11, 2019, at 7 a.m. south of the Camino De La Plaza Bridge. These additional lanes are part of the San Ysidro Land Port of Entry (LPOE) Modernization and Expansion project.

In order to transition vehicle traffic to the new lane configuration, GSA will be implementing alternating, temporary overnight lane closures on the I-5S and southbound Interstate 805 (I-805S) between June 10 and June 14 during the hours of 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.

GSA will temporarily close the I-5S overnight for a nine-hour period on June 10 and June 11, 2019. Traffic will be detoured to the I-805S freeway via the SR-905 connector beginning at  10 p.m. on June 10 through 7 a.m. on June 11, 2019; and again from 10 p.m.  June 11, 2019 to 7 a.m. June 12, 2019. The Camino De La Plaza southbound I-5 freeway on-ramp will be closed during this same time frame. One lane will remain open on I-805S.

GSA will also temporarily close the southbound I-805 overnight for a nine-hour period on June 12 and June 13, 2019. Traffic will be detoured to the I-5S freeway via the SR-905 connector from 10 p.m. June 12, 2019, to 7 a.m. June 13, 2019 and again from 10 p.m. June 13 2019 to 7 a.m. June 14, 2019. Two lanes will remain open on I-5S.

Travelers are advised to plan ahead for potential delays, monitor media and traffic reports, and adhere to posted signage which announces changes to freeway patterns on affected roadways - including the last USA exit and speed limits. Southbound traffic through the San Ysidro crossing into Mexico will remain open to vehicular and pedestrian traffic during the detour.
