GSA to Auction Former Madawaska Land Port of Entry

BOSTON – Today, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced it is selling the former land port of entry property in Madawaska, Maine. In 2024, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection ceased operations at this facility and relocated to the new Madawaska Land Port of Entry and International Bridge. The nearly one-acre property is located along the Saint John River at 63 Bridge Avenue.

The online auction, starting Aug. 20, represents GSA’s commitment to serve American taxpayers, reduce spending, and be responsible stewardship of public assets.

“In the spirit of fiscal responsibility and smart asset management, GSA is transforming an underutilized border facility into an opportunity for community and economic development,” said Public Buildings Service Regional Commissioner Glenn C. Rotondo. “This auction represents our ongoing commitment to maximize value for hardworking American taxpayers while responsibly divesting government real estate that no longer serves its original purpose.”

The building has 2,900 square feet on the first floor and a 2,900 square foot finished basement, for a total of approximately 5,800 square feet. The southern portion of the property is flat, paved, and improved with a 1-story brick building with two canopies, a guard shack, and shed for the generator.

The northern half of the property is in the floodplain and is non-buildable, consisting of a steep, wooded slope leading from a retaining wall down approximately 50 feet to the water line of the river. The property is surrounded by the river to the north, and a rail line and paper mill to the south, east and west.

Those interested in bidding are strongly urged to read the Invitation for Bids and additional information on the auction webpage.
