GSA Merges Technology and Acquisition
Statement from Acting Administrator Timothy Horne of the U.S. General Services Administration
WASHINGTON—GSA is committed to being a leading force in the campaign to modernize the federal government. That means transforming how we work to be more agile and cost effective, and provide better service across government.
Consistent with this vision, GSA will be moving the Technology Transformation Service (TTS) into the Federal Acquisition Service (FAS) and renaming it Technology Transformation Services. Rob Cook, the current Commissioner of TTS, will become a FAS Deputy Commissioner and Director, Technology Transformation Services. In addition, the senior position in FAS, its Commissioner, will be designated a non-career position.
By placing all of the offices focused on government modernization into one organization, GSA will be better able to leverage its expertise and assets in support of the White House and its Office of American Innovation.
Alan Thomas has been appointed Commissioner of FAS and will assume his role in the coming weeks. Thomas will ensure GSA’s acquisition strategies are aligned with President Trump’s business and technology initiatives. He comes to this position with more than 20 years of experience in both technology and business management within government and private industry. His experience includes service as a program analyst in the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics at the U.S. Department of Defense; and as a Management Analyst in the Department of the Army.
Thomas will lead the newly reorganized FAS to build on past successes and establish strong business models to continue modernizing government.
