Michael Copeland Named Regional Administrator of GSA’s Heartland Region

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) today announced the appointment of Michael Copeland to serve as the regional administrator of GSA’s Heartland Region.As the Heartland Regional Administrator, Copeland will oversee all of GSA’s operations in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska; including management of federal real estate and information technology. He will also be responsible for an inventory of 392 government-owned or leased buildings and more than 600 employees.

“I’m very pleased to welcome Michael to the GSA leadership team in the Heartland Region,” said GSA Administrator Emily Murphy. “His strong track record of leadership in both the public and private sectors will be invaluable as we continue our focus on providing ethical leadership, reducing duplication, increasing competition and improving agency transparency.”

Copeland comes to GSA with extensive public and private sector leadership experience. He has served as the mayor of Olathe, Kansas since 2001. He also served as the deputy secretary of workforce services for the Kansas Department of Commerce. Additionally, Copeland worked as president and chief executive officer of the Security Savings Bank in Olathe.

Copeland received a Bachelor of Arts degree from MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe.

GSA today also announced that Judith Dungan has been appointed as senior advisor to Copeland. Dungan has a successful record of leadership in the non-profit and public sectors, including serving as a staff leader for former U.S. Senator Kit Bond and serving as a member of the executive committee for the Generate HealthSTL board of directors.
