Revolutionizing Federal Contracting: GSA Calls on Industry for Expertise
GSA to leverage innovative solutions from startups and industry leaders to shape future acquisition strategies
WASHINGTON — Today, the General Services Administration (GSA) issued a Request for Information seeking input from a broad range of suppliers and industry associations regarding the creation of a new single, end-to-end integrated, and highly-efficient procurement ecosystem — that effectively incorporates Artificial Intelligence (AI) — to drive transparent collaboration and greatly enhance the federal acquisition lifecycle.
“President Trump, through his executive orders and AI Action Plan, is prioritizing the consolidation of federal procurement and acceleration of AI adoption across government. GSA plays a central role in both these efforts and will deliver a more effective, data-driven, and unified acquisition lifecycle,” said Federal Acquisition Service Commissioner Josh Gruenbaum. “Leveraging AI to consolidate procurement processes and provide insightful recommendations is critical to this transformation. We welcome our industry partners’ expertise as we build an acquisition system that reduces waste, delivers better value for taxpayers, and better results for government.”
The RFI is an initial outreach to industry partners looking to provide perspective on GSA’s vision and path to updating procurement practices. The RFI supports GSA’s initiative, on behalf of the entire federal government, to revolutionize federal procurement for the acquisition workforce, program offices, and suppliers. GSA is particularly interested in how industry partners can contribute to this solution by applying AI and automation to GSA’s existing data (both structured and unstructured). This collaboration aims to achieve significant efficiencies and scale in federal procurement.
GSA is seeking input from suppliers and industry associations including those with experience in areas such as information technology, data architecture and storage, AI and Machine Learning, data analytics, user experience design, and innovative solutions from small businesses/startups.
Parties interested in providing feedback should review the draft RFI package — which includes the scope, objectives, sample functional requirements, information about current systems and issues, non-functional requirements, and more — and respond to the published questions. GSA will accept White Papers up to 10 pages in length.
Responses to the RFI are due August 29, 2025. GSA anticipates using the feedback gathered through this process to inform potential follow-on engagements, including potential additional RFIs, draft solicitations, and individual follow-up meetings. GSA anticipates issuing solicitations in support of this initiative shortly after receiving and evaluating feedback.
