Three-story South State Street building to be demolished

CHICAGO – The U.S. General Services Administration will demolish a three-story building (208-212 S. State Street) over four to six weeks, with an anticipated start date of April 14, due to safety concerns. GSA will have safety barriers on the street during the demolition.
A recent conditions assessment found the non-historic building, which has been unoccupied for several years, is not structurally sound and presents risks, including potential facade collapse that would endanger pedestrians and street traffic.
This building is flanked by other GSA properties at 202 (Century Building), 214, and 220 (Consumers Building) S. State Street. GSA is continuing its discussions with stakeholders on the future of these three buildings, which will not be affected by this demolition.
