GSA wins a Best in Category – Cyber award and CIO Dave Shive is honored with Champion Award
GSA’s Chief Information Officer Dave Shive accepted the Federal Information Technology Acquisition Reform Act (FITARA) Champion Award during the March 1 FITARA Awards and FedRAMP ceremony in Washington, D.C., for consistently aiding GSA’s mission to provide innovative, collaborative and cost-effective IT solutions, while delivering excellent customer service to federal partners and agencies. Shive is the longest serving federal Chief Information Officer in federal government.
Additionally, GSA received a Best in Category – Cyber award. Since the beginning of 2021, GSA received four consecutive “A” scores on the FITARA scorecard for cybersecurity. GSA Deputy Administrator Kate Kale accepted the award on behalf of GSA.
“It’s an honor for our GSA employees to be recognized for their work to put technology to work for our agency customers and the people they serve,” said GSA Deputy Administrator Katy Kale. “We’ll continue to smartly invest in cybersecurity efforts to ensure government can deliver effectively and securely for people throughout the country.”
Shive received the FITARA Champion award for being a visionary leader who implements innovative ideas, inspires others to get on board and who also has impact on not only their agency but also the federal IT community and the country.
Shive also serves as the vice-chair for the Federal CIO Council where he helps define government strategies for digital transformation, cybersecurity and customer experience.
To kick off the evening, GSA’s FedRAMP Program received an honorary award for its recent codification into law. Brian Conrad, acting FedRAMP director and program manager for cybersecurity, accepted the recognition on behalf of the FedRAMP team. FedRAMP provides a standardized approach to security authorizations for cloud service offerings.
U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly of Virginia also attended the ceremony as a guest speaker.
The Federal Information Technology Acquisition Reform Act (FITARA), passed by Congress in 2014, represented the first major overhaul of federal information technology management.
