Meeting The Moment: A Smarter Way To Buy Laptops And Desktops Governmentwide

As we enter the fourth quarter of the fiscal year, GSA is helping federal agencies meet mission needs faster and more efficiently by streamlining the way they buy laptops and desktops.

In alignment with Executive Order 14240, GSA’s Governmentwide Strategic Solutions (GSS) for Desktops and Laptops Blanket Purchase Agreements (BPAs) on the Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) are now the designated vehicles for purchasing laptops and desktops across government. These BPAs offer standardized configurations, pricing transparency, and an easier buying experience through familiar platforms like GSA AdvantageSelect, eBuy, and BPA Holder catalogs.

By consolidating how agencies buy laptops and desktops, we’re delivering on the President’s directive to make federal buying smarter, faster, and more cost-effective. Last year, the GSS program saved taxpayers $179 million, getting prices down to an average of $225 per unit, reflecting the best of category management and supporting agencies at every step of the acquisition process.

What’s new?

Each of these vehicles feature all of the latest GSS-approved models (lightweight laptop, standard desktop, and performance versions), meeting the vast majority of federal agency use cases, along with pricing and discount structures that reflect the buying power of the federal government. Those limited use cases that fall outside of these parameters can still be purchased through MAS.

Supporting a smooth buying experience

To support agencies, GSA is hosting two events (1 continuous learning point each):

  • August 20th – A foundational webinar covering GSS V11 models, ordering platforms, and the overall goals of the 4th Quarter Buying Event. (Register Now)
  • September 4th – A flagship rollout event featuring leadership from across government, finalized pricing, and tools to help acquisition teams make smart, compliant buys before the fiscal year ends. (Register Now)

These sessions are designed for acquisition and IT professionals across the 24 CFO Act agencies — and anyone managing end-of-year tech purchases.

A simple, compliant way to buy

By using the GSS BPAs, agencies can:

  • Reduce administrative burden
  • Improve visibility into what they’re buying and spending
  • Avoid duplicative efforts
  • Stay aligned with the Administration’s direction under Executive Order 14240, Eliminating Waste and Saving Taxpayer Dollars by Consolidating Procurement
  • Save money
