The SBIR and STTR programs are highly competitive programs that encourage domestic small businesses to engage in Federal Research/Research and Development, or R/R&D with the potential for commercialization. Through a competitive awards-based program, SBIR and STTR enable small businesses to explore their technological potential and provide the incentive to profit from its commercialization. Including qualified small businesses in the nation’s R&D arena stimulates high-tech innovation, and the United States gains entrepreneurial spirit while meeting specific research and development needs.
Our role in SBIR
Currently, we do not fund any SBIR or STTR Programs. However, we award and administer Phase I/II/III work on behalf of clients in other federal agencies.
Our Office of Assisted Acquisition Services awards and administers SBIR or STTR Phase III contracts. The objective of Phase III is for small businesses to pursue commercialization of the objectives resulting from Phase I/II R/R&D activities. AAS also awards and administers Phase I/II work on behalf of clients in participating agencies.
If you are with a participating agency or industry partner, you can obtain AAS services or email gsasbir-sttr@gsa.gov for more help or information.
