The E. Ross Adair Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse is located on the southwest side of Fort Wayne’s central business district. Originally built for use as a post office, this historic building is named after former U.S. Congressman and Ambassador to Ethiopia Edwin Ross Adair. Pieces from his personal collection of Ethiopian artifacts are currently on display in the building.

The building houses the U.S. District and Bankruptcy courts and offices for U.S. Probation, Public Defender, Magistrate, Attorneys, Marshals Service, Trustees, Drug Enforcement Administration, and a U.S. Congressman and Senator.
History and architectural features
Built in the Starved Classical Style in 1932, the three-story Adair U.S. Courthouse is made of Indiana limestone and includes a basement, penthouse, and mezzanine levels. The building’s historic lobby and courtrooms feature ornamental metal and marble. In 2006 the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and in 2012 the building won ENERGY STAR® designation.
