HUD workstation in open workplace area.
In August 2024, GSA reached substantial completion on a Department of Housing and Urban Development relocation project, saving the federal government $4.68 million in Richmond, Virginia. GSA assisted HUD in consolidating an underutilized 33,338 rentable square foot leased space into 17,108 rentable square feet at the Federal Office Building. The move from leased to federal space saves the federal government $771,000 in annual rent.
The adoption of a more open workplace environment improved HUD’s space utilization by 74%.
The new HUD spaces on the third and fourth floors provide an open workplace environment with flexible conferencing and training rooms. HUD employees anticipate moving into their new workspace at the end of November 2024.
GSA continues to partner with federal agencies to explore new ways to more efficiently use the government’s real property assets and save taxpayer money, while providing agencies with workplaces that enable them to focus on their missions.
