The United States has 167 land ports of entry, also known as border stations. These facilities control entry into or departure from the U.S. for persons or materials. U.S. Customs and Border Protection and other federal inspection agencies operate the LPOEs.
We coordinate long-range space requirements, budget requests, and project approval with our partners at CBP, Department of Transportation, Department of State, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Fish and Wildlife Service, Food and Drug Administration, and many other federal, state, and local entities.
Through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, we are modernizing 20 land ports of entry along the northern border and six land ports of entry along the southern border. The modernized LPOEs will benefit the supply chain, labor market, and security.
GSA is investing over $1B in Inflation Reduction Act funding to make its land ports of entries models for high performance green buildings, including installation of low embodied carbon materials, electrification of most IIJA LPOE projects, and pursuing net-zero at many locations.
Functioning as a regulated gateway, it facilitates the movement of individuals and goods entering or exiting the United States. Within these premises, LPOE’s Customs and Border Protection, alongside other federal inspection agencies, diligently uphold legal mandates governing arrivals and departures.
It provides funding for LPOE modernization projects that will create new good-paying jobs, bolster safety and security, and make our economy more resilient to supply chain challenges.
We construct and maintain land ports of entry along the nation’s borders for CBP and other federal inspection agencies. Through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, GSA is modernizing LPOEs along the Canadian and Mexican borders. These upgrades will strengthen supply chains, create good-paying jobs, enhance safety and security.
