History and Architectural Features
The Williams building was constructed in 1918 in Boston, Massachusetts. Originally known as the Appraiser’s Stores, the building was constructed by the government as part of a campaign to utilize the waterfront property for storage, seizure and inspection of goods destined for the nearby Custom House. In 1980, GSA completed a major workout of the building’s interior. In the early 1990s, the building was converted from a warehouse into a modern office building. In 2019, GSA installed new concrete flooring and new trench drains in the basement, which has been plagued with flooding and corrosion for many years. Additionally, GSA conducted a partial removal of the seawall, temporarily stabilized the shore infrastructure, repaired and rehabilitated the seawall and replaced the walkway surface.
