The site of the consolidated FDA campus was previously the United States Department of the Navy’s Dahlgren Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center, White Oak Detachment. The Department of the Navy closed the Center in 1993 and transferred the site to GSA. Currently, the site is known as the Federal Research Center.
The site encompasses 670 acres, lies within Montgomery County and Prince George’s County of Maryland. The main entrance is located at 10901 New Hampshire Avenue, approximately 1.15 miles north of the Capital Beltway, Interstate 495, and 0.75 mile south of U.S. Highway 29, Colesville Road.
The 710 acre campus is roughly 10,000 feet east-west by 3,300 feet north-south. The areas of development are separated by eight wooded stream courses. The largest of which is Paint Branch, bisecting the site from north to south. The 130 acre FDA campus is located at the west end of the 710 acre GSA property, where the original Naval Surface Warfare Center was located.
