The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) and U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services (CIS) gathered on Wednesday, October 30, 2017 to officially break ground at the new USCIS’ headquarters building in Camp Springs, MD.
Former GSA Acting Administrator, Tim Horne, was joined by Congressman Anthony Brown, Prince George’s County Executive, Rushern Baker, Elaine Duke, DHS Acting Secretary and Derrick Davis, Prince George’s County Chairman, and many other executives to mark the official start of the project.
“By working collaboratively with our partners at USCIS, GSA was able to consolidate USCIS’ headquarters for the first time in the agency’s history while reducing the federal government’s footprint and saving American taxpayers millions of dollars,” said GSA Acting Administrator Tim Horne. Five leased locations will consolidate into the new state of the art headquarters and reduce USCIS’ footprint by 128,000 rentable square feet (RSF). The newly awarded lease will save the government $21.4 million in the first year.
Horne recognized the outstanding efforts of the entire GSA project team including: Santoni Graham, Lease Contracting Officer, Maricarmen Medina, Lease Contracting Specialist, Edith Toms, Acting Regional Counsel, Mikhail Peterson, Attorney for Office of Regional Counsel, Roger Perrault, DHS Team Lead, Paul Gyamfi, Regional Community Planner, Debra Hart, Space Management Specialist, and Neil Mahimtura, Project Architect for Office of Design Quality.
