Denise Maes was appointed Regional Administrator for the U.S. General Services Administration’s Rocky Mountain Region on June 5, 2023.
As Regional Administrator, she leads a workforce in Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming. Ms. Maes is focused on advancing GSA’s mission by further building relationships with key stakeholders in the region and amplifying the great work GSA does across the country.
Ms. Maes has 20 years of experience in advocacy and public service. She previously served as the Public Policy Director at the American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado where she was responsible for all legislative initiatives at the state and local level. She championed many progressive legislative initiatives, including working to end Colorado’s death penalty.
Prior to her work with the ACLU, Ms. Maes was General Counsel for the Office of Administration for President Barack Obama. She also was Director of Administration for then-Vice President Joseph Biden, where she oversaw the Vice President’s budget, travel, and personnel.
In her personal capacity, Ms. Maes has served on many community and civic boards and is currently on the Board of Directors of the Colorado Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of New Mexico and a Juris Doctorate from University of New Mexico School of Law. In her law career she specialized in environmental law and land-use regulation and litigation.
