The GSA Acquisition Workforce Division (AWD) is pivotal in bridging human capital management, policy, and acquisition operations. Our mission is to enhance career development, drive innovation, and lead strategic management of acquisition talent. By providing oversight and strategic direction for the acquisition careers of approximately 7,000 professionals within GSA, AWD directly supports the agency’s goal as America’s buyer. We also collaborate with the Federal Acquisition Institute, the White House Office of Management and Budget, and other federal agencies to advance human capital management across the federal landscape.
Key Programs and Initiatives:
- Career management infrastructure: We create and refine the framework for a formal Career Management community of practice, offering clear guidance and resources to ensure effective program implementation across the agency.
- Certification programs: We oversee federal acquisition and agency-specific certification and specialization programs, including the GSA Real Property Leasing Certification Program, ensuring that professionals are properly trained and qualified to perform the duties of their role.
- Contracting officer warrant program: We standardize the qualification, review, and appointment of contracting officers, ensuring consistency and compliance across the agency.
- Workforce training and career development: We are dedicated to advancing the professional growth of our workforce through a comprehensive approach to training and career development. We develop innovative learning resources tailored to meet emerging business needs and close skill gaps. We meticulously curate a blend of public and private learning resources, integrating high-quality content from various sources to provide a rich, diverse learning experience. We continuously assess the effectiveness of our training programs by evaluating their relevance to current business requirements and measuring their return on investment. This ongoing evaluation process allows us to adapt and refine our training offerings, ensuring they remain aligned with organizational goals and deliver tangible value.
Through these strategic efforts, we develop educational resources and policies that enhance onboarding, support career progression, and retain top talent, ultimately improving workforce effectiveness and reducing turnover costs.
