Federal websites serve users, but what about artificial intelligence as a user? As large language models are trained to interpret websites, people will increasingly depend on these tools to navigate government services. The challenge:
Propose a solution to optimize your assigned federal government website that will ensure LLMs generate reliable, authoritative answers from its content while continuing to meet individual user needs and expectations.
In essence, we’re asking you to reimagine federal websites in a way that optimizes them for “AI as a user,” without compromising the human user experience. As LLMs become more prevalent in everyday life, the general public and other government website users will increasingly rely upon third-party LLMs for reliable information. Our vision is that all seekers of federal information are able to obtain reliable, up-to-date, and accurate information from AI agents.
Our industry co-sponsors will provide you with free access to use their cutting-edge AI and cloud tools. You may leverage these tools and other technologies to write code, propose development standards, or develop other novel approaches to address the challenge. We’re leaving the specifics of “novel” intentionally vague as our overarching goal is for YOU to tell US how we should optimize federal government websites in this context. For example, solutions could include fully reimagined websites, content overhauls, or new APIs. That said, there are a wide variety of approaches to this challenge, and we want to hear your perspective. We want to emphasize that a significant component of the judging criteria centers around creativity and innovation. We are not being prescriptive.
All teams will be randomly assigned to work on one specific federal website (out of the five chosen for the challenge) to work on the day of the event.
We look forward to seeing you in person and to your answers to this challenge!
