GSA achieves Gold recognition by Green Lease Leaders
GSA was recently named a Gold Green Lease Leader for our sustainability program and implementation of green leasing standards. Launched in 2014, Green Lease Leaders sets standards for what constitutes a green lease, while recognizing landlords and tenants who modernize their leases to spur collaborative action on energy and water efficiency, cost-savings, air quality improvement and sustainability in buildings. This is the third time GSA has been recognized following Silver recognition in 2016 and 2022. GSA was recognized for energy efficiency and sustainability best practices such as utility data tracking and sharing, energy-saving measures, green products and sustainability training.
Green Lease Leaders is a three year recognition program for landlords, tenants and teams who integrate green leasing into their standard practices. Through the Green Lease Leaders program, green leases have become a proven tool for those wanting to improve the sustainability and energy-efficiency of their spaces, unlocking win-win investments for landlords and tenants with energy-aligned clauses. Green leases by definition are leases with clauses and operational procedures that advance efficient and carbon neutral buildings. Green leases can reduce an office building’s utility costs by 22% and up to 51 cents per square foot in commercial buildings.
When executed, green leases have the potential to provide the leased U.S. office market $3.3 billion in annual cost savings. Performance-based leases can take the energy savings even further by setting continual performance targets with tenants. The Green Lease Leaders designation is valid for three years, after which recipients are invited to reapply.
