The Lipinski Federal Building spans one city block and was named in 2009 for former U.S. Representative William Oliver Lipinski, who served from 1983 to 2005. Built in the Modernist style, the 15-floor masonry and steel structure was originally constructed as a retail building in 1923. The federal government bought the building in 1942.
