In early 2016, we began retro-commissioning heating and cooling system equipment in the Customhouse in an effort to improve occupant comfort. We installed controls to adjust mechanical equipment according to indoor heat loads and outdoor temperature and humidity. Other earlier efforts included replacing boiler controllers, updating the sequencing, and replacing all boiler tubes to dramatically improve the heating capabilities of the building. Finally, we installed GSALink, which provides computerized data from the building’s operating systems and shows opportunities for saving energy. In 2019, replacement of the building’s roof was completed.
All visitors must undergo security screening and present a valid identity card (like a state driver’s license or federal ID) before gaining access to the building. See Real ID for more information.
The building’s major tenants include DHS Customs and Border Protection, DHS OIG, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the FBI, Office of Personnel Management, and U.S. Marshals Service.
